Israeli songs and memories from childhood

Postby KDSymphony » Sat Apr 28, 2007 3:01 pm

I hope no one minds if I share these ... and hopefully I am posting in the right forum:

My mom sent these to me. I thought they might bring back memories for someone else who spent their childhood in Israel...

1. This is the song Hallelujah. It won first place in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1979.

2. It took a while to remember why this song was so familiar. The 1983 Eurovision was the last one I was in Israel for, before we came to America. Ofra Haza won a close second place with "Chai": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aDbwOrXPR10.

That spring, Eurovision fever spread to us kids in the neighborhood (ages 8-13?). One of the older kids played "MC", and the rest of us would perform for each other and then vote for the winner. This was entirely conceived by us kids for each other. It was a wonderful time to be a kid. (In the summer, the cartoon "Marco" was playing on TV ... anyone remember?)

I did not know Ofra Haza died of complications from AIDS in 2000 :(
